"Avoid Medtronic at all costs"
In May 2021, the training/sales rep for Medtronic contacted me to replace my old (functioning and reliable) insulin pump, and I explained I did not want anything too technologically advanced so she recommended their lowest-tech pump, the 630G.
I got the pump in June and after using it for six weeks and suffering SEVERE low (21 mg/dl) and SEVERE high (590 mg/dl) blood sugars, I texted the rep to let her know I wanted to return the pump. That was August 25, 2021. She said I was outside the 30-day return period and she would talk with the Returns department to see what could be done. Perhaps I just needed training!
Since then, that rep has been basically incommunicado; over two weeks, I spoke with about a dozen other Medtronic personnel in various departments, each of whom absolutely refuses to listen to my complaints about the pump and either directly or indirectly, tells me that I do not know how to use an insulin pump.
In addition, one of these obstinate folks contacted my physician and told him a) I did not know how to use an insulin pump, b) I was putting my own life in danger by ignoring Medtronic's advice, and c) I needed either dietary or insulin pump training immediately.
I have been a Medtronic insulin pump user since 1993. Yes, 1993.
I have been bounced around from person to person in various departments at Medtronic, ridiculed by the last person to whom I spoke for my attempt to contact Medtronic's EVP/President in charge of diabetes products ('how dare I?' he implied), and my request to return this pump and receive a refund has been 100 percent ignored. Repeatedly.
I am left with no choice but to complete my complaint to the FDA about this insulin pump that is obviously defective and the corporate shills at Medtronic who don't care one whit about customer health once they have received appropriate filthy lucre (from my insurance company, in this case).
In the meantime, said insurance company will not cover an insulin pump from another manufacturer -- because they just paid for a brand new Medtronic 630G pump; I see their point. They deserve their money back.
If I had not kept my old (and perfectly designed!) Paradigm insulin pump, I'm certain I would be in dire (diabetic) straits due to Medtronic's supercilious insistence that I continue using a pump model that was recalled in December 2020 and which -- in my personal opinion -- is defective. I personally believe Medtronic is foisting this pump on unsuspecting diabetics in order to empty their warehouse shelves.
My recommendation: Avoid Medtronic at all costs.
